My Step-by-Step Guide to a Joyful and Healthy Thanksgiving
Wellness Wednesday: My Step-by-Step Guide to a Joyful and Healthy Thanksgiving
November 26, 2025
Thanksgiving is a time to pause, reflect, and share a wonderful meal with loved ones. It’s also a time when many of us feel like we have to completely derail our health goals. My approach is different: a few small, mindful steps can ensure you enjoy the holiday fully without the stress or regret.
Here are my Five Steps that could make a big difference this holiday week:
1. Prioritize Sleep for Metabolic Balance
A good night's sleep is the foundation of good health. Getting quality rest on Wednesday and Thursday night is key to boosting your insulin sensitivity. Set yourself up for success by getting sunlight early (maybe a morning walk or "turkey trot"), being mindful of alcohol with dinner, and avoiding that late-night leftover snacking.
2. Make Movement a Family Affair
We know movement reduces stress and elevates mood, but it also promotes great metabolic health! After that wonderful Thanksgiving meal, gathering the family for a post-dinner walk is one of the best habits you can adopt. Whether it's a group hike, a short run, an invigorating walk, or streaming a workout class together, focus on making movement part of the fun.
3. Fuel Up on Protein and Fiber Before the Feast
Don't go to the big dinner hungry! Eating some protein and fiber throughout the day keeps you satisfied and prevents you from overdoing the heavy, carb-dense side dishes later. Focus on eggs, well-sourced meats, leafy greens, and cruciferous vegetables to provide your body with lasting, quality fuel.
4. Bring a Metabolically Friendly Dish
Want to guarantee there's something balanced on the table? Bring a dish you know is both delicious and supportive of your health!

5. Finally, remember: One Meal Won’t Derail Your Goals
The daily, step-by-step habits you maintain year-round matter far more than a single holiday feast. Enjoy your favorite foods mindfully, savor the flavors, and focus on connection with your loved ones. Get right back to your routine the next day without guilt or regret.
Let me take a moment to let you know how thankful I am for YOU!
Wishing you a warm, safe, and truly healthy Thanksgiving surrounded by those you love.
Hugs and Health,
Lisa
